An NFC business card uses Near Field Communication to share your contact information with a phone tap. Instead of handing out paper cards, you hold your phone near someone else's — your digital card opens instantly in their browser. NexaLink uses your phone's built-in NFC chip, so there's no physical card to buy, and your info updates in real-time.

What is NFC and How Does It Work?

NFC (Near Field Communication) is a wireless technology that allows two devices to communicate when they're within a few centimeters of each other. When you tap your phone near another NFC-enabled device, data is instantly transferred.

Range: 4-10 centimeters (requires close proximity)
Speed: Instant data transfer (less than 1 second)
Compatibility: Most smartphones since 2015 support NFC

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an NFC business card?

An NFC business card uses Near Field Communication to share your contact info with a phone tap. Instead of handing out paper, you hold your phone near someone else's — your digital card opens instantly in their browser. No app download, no pairing, no Wi-Fi needed. NexaLink uses your phone's built-in NFC chip, so there's nothing extra to buy.

Do I need a physical NFC card or tag?

No. Your smartphone already has NFC built in. NexaLink uses your phone's hardware directly. However, you CAN also write your card URL to a physical NFC tag or sticker ($2-5) and attach it to your wallet, phone case, or lanyard — giving you a backup that works even when your phone is off.

Which phones support NFC?

All iPhones from iPhone 7 onward and nearly all Android phones released since 2015. If your phone supports Apple Pay or Google Pay, it has NFC. That covers over 90% of smartphones in use today.

How is NFC different from QR code sharing?

NFC: tap phones together, card appears instantly. Faster, feels premium. QR code: show a code, they scan it with their camera. Works at a distance, no physical contact needed. NexaLink gives you both methods (plus direct links and Apple Wallet), so you pick whichever fits the moment.

Is NFC sharing free?

NFC tap-to-share is a Pro feature ($2.99/month). The free plan includes QR code sharing and direct links — which work on every device. Most users start free and upgrade to Pro when they want NFC + analytics + multiple cards.

What happens when someone receives my NFC card?

Your digital business card opens as a mobile-optimized webpage in their browser. They see your name, title, company, photo, contact details, and social links. They can save your contact to their phone with one tap, call you, email you, or visit your LinkedIn — all without downloading an app.

Can I use NFC with a physical card too?

Yes. You can write your NexaLink card URL to any NFC tag (NTAG213/215/216). Embed it in a plastic card, metal card, sticker, or wristband. When someone taps it with their phone, your digital card opens. The difference from other NFC card companies: your card updates in real-time, so you never need to rewrite the tag.

How far does NFC work?

NFC works within about 4 centimeters (1.5 inches). You need to hold phones close together — almost touching. This is by design: it ensures you're intentionally sharing with someone standing right in front of you, not broadcasting to everyone nearby.

Does NFC work through phone cases?

Yes. NFC signals pass through most phone cases, including silicone, plastic, and thin leather cases. Very thick or metal cases may reduce range slightly, but it still works with phones held back-to-back.

Can I track who I shared my card with via NFC?

Yes. NexaLink analytics track every card view, regardless of how it was shared — NFC, QR, or link. You see total views, link clicks, and contact saves. Pro users get 90-day analytics; Premium gets 365 days.

How does NFC compare to physical NFC cards from Popl, Linq, etc.?

Physical NFC cards (Popl, Linq, V1CE) cost $15-50 each and are frozen the moment they're printed — if you change jobs, you need a new card. NexaLink's phone-based NFC is free to use (Pro plan), always up-to-date, and you can also write to your own NFC tags for $2-5. Same tap experience, but your info is always current.

What if the other person's phone doesn't have NFC?

No problem. NexaLink gives you 5 sharing methods: NFC tap, QR code, direct link, Apple Wallet, and Google Wallet. If their phone doesn't support NFC, show your QR code or text them your link.
